Popcorn PalaceCinema Tycoon

Privacy policy

As of: 24 October 2026. This is a translation. If the versions differ, the German version applies.

In short: Popcorn Palace needs no account, sets no cookies and uses no tracking, ads or analytics. Your progress stays on your device (in the iPhone app, optionally also in your iCloud Keychain). There are no in-app purchases.

2. Progress on your device

The game saves your progress (e.g. money, upgrade levels, your cinema’s name, settings) in local storage on your device (“localStorage”, in the app in the app’s storage). This data is not transmitted to me or to third parties. Storing it is strictly necessary for the game (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG). You can delete your progress at any time: in the game under Menu → “Delete progress and start over”. The “Back up progress” feature saves a file only on your device.

2a. In the iPhone app

In the app, your progress is also stored in your iPhone’s app storage and, as a backup copy, in the keychain. If iCloud Keychain is turned on on your iPhone, Apple syncs this copy end-to-end encrypted with your other Apple devices. This way your progress moves with you to a new iPhone. I have no access to it. Whether the keychain syncs with iCloud is set in your iPhone’s iCloud settings. “Delete progress and start over” deletes all copies. The legal basis is Section 25 (2) no. 2 TDDDG (strictly necessary for the service).

If you allow it, the app schedules reminders (e.g. when a construction site is finished) directly on your iPhone. There is no server for this and no data is transferred. So that reminders arrive at a good time, the app remembers on your iPhone at which times of day you usually play. This information never leaves your device. You can withdraw the permission at any time in your iPhone settings under “Notifications”.

Downloads, updates and ratings go through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes data according to its own privacy policy. I only receive aggregated statistics from Apple that cannot be traced back to individuals. “Rate Popcorn Palace” in the menu opens the game’s page in the App Store. When the game asks for a rating, Apple’s own dialog appears.

3. Hosting of the website

The website popcorn-palace.com (home page, help, privacy policy, legal notice) is hosted by Netlify, Inc., 101 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA. When you visit it, Netlify processes technically necessary data in server logs: IP address, date and time, requested file, browser and operating system. This serves to deliver and secure the site. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in secure and stable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Netlify processes the data on my behalf (Art. 28 GDPR). Netlify is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, so the European Commission’s adequacy decision applies to the transfer to the USA (Art. 45 GDPR). Netlify keeps the server logs only as long as needed to deliver and secure the website and then deletes them. More: netlify.com/privacy.

The game itself is available as an iPhone app. If you play a test version as a downloaded file, no data is transmitted.

4. No storage by the website

The website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. If you used the earlier web version of the game on popcorn-palace.com, the website automatically deletes the files stored back then for offline use (“service worker”) on your next visit. The legal basis is Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG.

5. No third-party content

Fonts, graphics, sounds and music are included in the game. The game loads nothing from other servers, including no fonts from Google. The website also serves images and video from its own server and loads nothing from other servers.

6. Email contact, feedback and error log

If you email me, I process your details to answer your message (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) and delete them when they are no longer needed.

If errors occur in the game, it remembers the last eight error messages (technical text with time) only on your device. “Give feedback” turns this into an email in your own mail app: your text, a summary of your progress (level, play time, satisfaction), device type (e.g. “iOS · Safari”), screen size, measured frame rate, number of sessions and days played, and the error messages. These values are created only on your device. You see the email before sending it and decide yourself whether to send it. You can also just copy the text.

7. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). To exercise them, write to the email address above. You can also complain to a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country where you live (Art. 77 GDPR).

8. Changes

Popcorn Palace has no ads, no in-app purchases and no tracking. If new features or services are added, I will update this policy beforehand.
